Jasmine’s hand rested on Dimitri’s cheek. She was close enough to feel his breath against her face, to see flecks of black in his brown eyes. Curse him and his unreadable gaze. How could one person be so damn good at masking his emotions? Mere inches away, and she couldn’t tell whether he wanted her or felt repulsed by her. She must have been desperate. Why else would she keep throwing her most vulnerable self at the feet of Dimitri Hale? Why else would she keep begging this insufferable man for love?
Because she knew he cared. Because when it mattered most, when she’d needed someone, he’d been there. Rescuing her from a locked bathroom. Yelling at her that he never wanted to see her at a house party again. Putting himself between her and every man who’d tried to take advantage of her.
