When I moved to Washington State in 2006, it was the beginning of summer vacation, meaning I had three months of free time to look forward to. Since I wouldn’t be able to make friends until at least September, I made frequent visits to the small public library in downtown DuPont. It may surprise you to hear this, but I didn’t do a lot of reading back then—not novels, anyway. I was deep in my anime phase and read manga almost exclusively. But the DuPont library did not have a wide selection of manga. What they did have was an entire back wall dedicated to YA novels.
