Halfway through his date with Autumn Forrester, Sebastian found himself grateful for two things: that Pride & Prejudice was finally over, and that his car hadn’t broken down so far. After the movie, Autumn had complained of hunger—which, according to Dimitri, was a good sign. “If she wants to extend the date, then you’ve made a favorable impression,” he’d told him over the phone last night. So Sebastian had taken her to Pizza Manor, a local chain that always seemed to be on the verge of shutting down for good.
Now, he could not, for the life of him, figure out how he’d made a favorable impression on Autumn when they’d hardly said anything to each other during the movie. She’d watched with starry eyes as Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy argued in the rain after his ill-timed marriage proposal. She’d swooned at the sight of Matthew Macfadyen emerging from the morning mist, coat tails waving. Fair enough, Sebastian thought, he could see the dreaminess of it. But if she was expecting that from him, she was going to be disappointed.
